Cantonese dialect
🗣Cantonese dialect, in certain Cantonese regions is called the Guangfu dialect, while in Guangxi region is called the vernacular language. The Cantonese dialect is a type of tonal language. It is the commonly used language in China’s Guangdong and Guangxi regions, Hong Kong, Macau, certain parts of the Southeast Asia as well as the Chinese communities in the European and American regions.
Cantonese = Guangdong?
The reason why Cantonese is called "Cantonese" is because in ancient collections, "Yue"(粤) and "Yue"(越) can be used interchangeably. After the Sui and Tang Dynasties, the meanings of the words "Yue" and "Yue" started being differentiated. The former was mostly used in Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Wu regions while the latter was mostly used in Lingnan, Guangdong and Guangxi, and has long been used as a collective name for the Lingnan region. Later, the appellations of Guangdong and Guangxi were distinguished. "Guangdong" refers specifically to Guangdong, and Guangxi is referred to as "Gui" for short.
